About the Department
The Geneseo Police Department provides law enforcement services to the Village of Geneseo, which has approximately 8,114 residents. The Village of Geneseo also encompasses the SUNY Geneseo College. The department is very proud of its commitment to the community and the partnerships it has developer, realizing that safety and quality of life are both personal and shared responsibilities.
The police department is comprised of seven full-time officers, including a police chief and a sergeant. The police department handles approximately 8,500 complaints throughout the year. The department also offers a number of community programs such as: child safety seat installation, a property check program, a kid ID kit program, a bicycle safety program, and a speed awareness program.
Accreditation
On June 2, 2016, the Geneseo Police Department was accredited by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Chief Eric Osganian, Sergeant Dana Carson and Officer Christopher Matteson traveled to Albany to receive the award.
On June 3, 2021, the Geneseo Police Department was re-accredited by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Chief Eric Osganian, Officer Christopher Matteson and Officer Gary Miller received the award.
Accreditation is a progressive and contemporary way of helping police agencies evaluate and improve their overall performance. It provides formal recognition that an organization meets or exceeds general expectations of quality in the field. Accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies that are conceptually sound and operationally effective.
